Company Receives Recognition for New RoadRunner™
Electronic Flight Instrument

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, May 19, 2016 – Astronautics Corporation of America was selected to receive a BizTimes I.Q. Award for Innovation from BizTimes Media LLC for its new RoadRunner Electronic Flight Instrument (EFI).

The I.Q. Awards salute businesses for innovative products, services, or processes.

Astronautics’ RoadRunner is an upgrade for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft that offers operators the choice of moving from electromechanical instruments and legacy EFIs to modern digital displays. The new RoadRunner EFI provides operators with:

● Enhanced safety with traffic, terrain, and weather system display information. The combination of Terrain Avoidance and Warning System (TAWS) and Synthetic Vision System (SVS)—computed and rendered within the RoadRunner—gives operators a real-time, 3-D image of flying conditions, resulting in reduced pilot workload and safer flying.

● Reduced operating costs by replacing both the ADI and HSI with a single RoadRunner—reducing aircraft weight by up to 16 pounds. Weight reduction means fuel reduction, which in turn means the ability to go further or carry more supplies on a mission. Furthermore, RoadRunner’s increased reliability reduces maintenance costs and minimizes repair needs.

● Short downtime to install with only minimal modifications needed to the instrument panel and aircraft wiring for installation. Because RoadRunner uses existing analog signals as data sources, operators are not required to replace the existing aircraft sensor systems with modern, digital sensors. RoadRunner also receives these digital signals meaning operators can incrementally upgrade aircraft sensors as desired instead of needing to replace an entire cockpit all at once.

“We are proud of the RoadRunner team for creating this outstanding aircraft flight display system,” said Astronautics President Chad Cundiff. “Operators want to get electronic flight information to improve safety and ensure they are able to achieve their missions reliably without expensive upgrades that cause the aircraft to be down for a long period. In today’s environment, people need cost-effective ways to upgrade their aircraft without a lot of downtime. We challenged our engineers to come up with a different approach; they met the challenge with the RoadRunner EFI.”

“We salute these fine local companies who are using innovation to grow and create jobs in southeastern Wisconsin,” said Dan Meyer, publisher of BizTimes Milwaukee.
RoadRunner is currently in development and will be available to customers in the first quarter of 2017.
