The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, operation, and performance of all Local Area, Wide Area, Wireless, and special purpose data networks at all Astronautics and Kearfott Corporation data centers and locations.

The Network Engineer will have an in-depth understanding of the network administration processes, including network troubleshooting, automatic route selections and recovery and network device configurations. The Network Engineer will work closely with other IT Engineers, the IT Helpdesk, suppliers and parters.  The Network Engineer will have the primary networking responsibility for all company locations.

The Network Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and augmenting systems and network documentation, including disaster recovery procedures and will be responsible for assuring that backup and recovery procedures are tested

Senior Network Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Administer the company’s data networks
    • Working with IT leadership, architect the companies’ network topologies, capacities, and networking device characteristics
    • Install, configure, deploy, and maintain network devices and services into existing corporate computing environments
    • Repair network problems
    • Set network performance targets, periodically report on meeting these targets, and implement changes when the targets are not met
    • Assure network reliability and security by maintaining network devices at current  software levels
    • Set and enforce network device configuration standards
  • Designs, develops, deploys, and maintains administrative processes
    • Document the various current processes
    • Maintain proper levels of source code and configuration revision controls
    • Establish network recovery procedures
  • Training and documentation
    • Keeps peers and power users current to any changes
    • Coaches peers in administrative procedures and diagnostic methods
    • Develops, maintains, or augments systems related documentation
    • Keeps self technically current in the area of expertise
  • Project Management
    • Manages site-specific and inter-site projects involving company network objects and using IT-OPS resources
    • Defines, prioritizes and organizes tasks
    • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet our quality standards

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or work equivalent experience is required
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Network Engineering is required
  • Experience configuring and implementing switches & routers, managing VPN tunnels and using VLAN technology is required
  • Must have managed/owned a project utilizing the full project management lifecycle process
  • Strong communication, teamwork & organizational skills are required
  • US Citizen/ Permanent Resident – Possesses or is able to obtain a security clearance
  • Job requires up to 25% travel.  Job location is Milwaukee, WI
  • Cisco certifications are a plus
